Principal C# Engineer

This is a principal-level software role in Galway with a salary of €90,000–€120,000, hybrid at 3 days a week in the office. Work permit sponsorship can be considered for excellent candidates.

About the organisation

This organisation builds software for managing mobile and IoT devices at scale. Their Galway R&D team works on core platform and service architecture, with a particular focus on location and signal services. The setup is established enough to have real product complexity, but small enough that senior engineers still shape the direction rather than just review slides.

You’d be the person setting technical direction for a meaningful part of the product estate, while still writing code. This is not an ivory tower architect post. They want someone who can define the future architecture, deal with awkward technical trade-offs, and help teams build things properly.

What you'll do

• Define and own the technical architecture for location services, signal services, and their integration into the wider platform.
• Design and build core backend components, APIs and responsive web UI layers, with hands-on delivery in C# and across the wider stack.
• Drive the non-functional side properly: performance, scalability, security, maintainability, and the steady removal of technical debt.
• Guide development teams on architecture, engineering standards and design decisions, while mentoring engineers and helping raise the bar across the group.

What you need

• Strong architectural experience in multi-tier software systems, with at least 10 years designing and delivering complex applications.
• Deep hands-on development background in .NET/C#, plus solid working knowledge of JavaScript, Angular, Node.js and modern web application architecture.
• Strong database knowledge across relational and NoSQL systems, plus a good grasp of cloud deployment in AWS or Azure.
• The judgement to solve messy business and technical problems without creating bigger ones six months later.

A background in computer science, maths, algorithms, data structures and software design matters here. So does experience with CI/CD, code quality tooling, agile delivery, and the ability to communicate technical direction clearly to engineering, product and leadership. This role needs someone who can move between code, architecture, and engineering leadership without becoming useless in any of the three.
